Where to Find the Best Hiking Experiences

Cathedral Rock

This back trail is a great hike for all skill levels! It is broken into two parts: a short and easy hike to the towering Cathedral Rock and a steep climb from there to the top portion. The trails are accessible all year. The first part of the trail is best for simple activities like walking and running. The second part is great for rock climbing. Be prepared for stunning scenic views the entire hike.

Airport Mesa Loop

The first part of this trail is level and increases in difficulty after about one mile. The reward for your efforts is beautiful red rock views from northeast to south over lower Oak Creek Valley. At the end of the trail you’ll also see amazing views of West Sedona.

Fay Canyon

A short, easy hike that will get you in touch with nature. You’ll be able to enjoy the grandeur of red sandstone walls towering overhead and the wildlife of a small, hidden canyon.

Devil’s Bridge

Take the hike to the largest sandstone bridge in the Sedona area of Coconino National Forest! This trail is mostly flat, with only the last 1/4th of a mile being steep. Once on the arch, the view of is simply sublime. Perfect for all experience levels, as well as those with families.

Bell Rock / Courthouse Butte Loop

With an extensive pathway leading to an easily approachable trailhead right off Highway 179, this is one of the easiest hikes in Sedona. Marvel at some of the most stunning rock formations with views of Castle Rock and Courthouse Butte.

Doe Mountain

An easily accessible trail, you’ll climb up the north side of a low, flat-topped Mesa to reach an area with a breathtaking panoramic view. From the top of the Mesa, you can see several of Sedona’s prominent landmarks including Secret Canyons and Chimney Rock. Then enjoy the surrounding countryside as you make your way back down the trail.

Boynton Canyon

You’ll see a lot of wildlife as you ramble through a breathtaking canyon on this lightly trafficked trail. When you reach the final 1/3rd mile of the hike, there’s a high forest full of pines, oaks, and alligator junipers that is simply amazing.

Brins Mesa

A convenient, picturesque trail that begins at the edge of Sedona. What sets this trail apart is how quickly it brings you to a lovely, open area where you can walk an enjoy the scenery. Though the trail isn’t steep or long, it can get hot in the summer because it isn’t shaded. Bring some extra water to stay hydrated!

 

Chapel of the Holy Cross

Offering great scenic views, the Chapel Trail is great for walking and hiking. The chapel was built in 1956 and stands over 200 feet from the ground between two towering red rock formations. Be prepared for gorgeous red rock buttes and eroded spires from the public observation deck of the chapel.

Munds Wagon

The scenic trail connects Schnebly Hill Trail to Margs Draw Trail and Huckaby Trail. You’ll experience several areas that descend down and also some periodic climbs. Along with beautiful nature all around you, you’ll experience some rich history. This trail follows one of the first and most popular cattle trails out of the Sedona area.

West Fork

You’ll fall in love with this trail after strolling along the pleasant little stream that ripples along the canyon floor and gazing up at the towering cliffs around you. A great hike any time of year, this trail offers an easy hike with several treks across the stream.

Wilson Mountain

This trail isn’t for the faint of heart! Plan a full day for this hike and start early. The climb up Wilson Mountain is strenuous. At the top you’ll be rewarded with views that stretch over hundreds of square miles of scenic canyon country.
